The Data Clerk will be responsible for preparing our customers’ (MFIs and SACCOs) data in a timely and accurate manner to enable a smooth start working with awamo® 360. This includes digitizing information and records currently maintained on paper, organizing data currently maintained via Excel and or support our customers to export data from an IT solution they are currently using.

About Awamo

Awamo Uganda provides the long awaited solution to the problems of MFIs and their clients. Awamo is the digital, mobile banking platform and credit bureau especially designed for MFIs. The biometric technology involved solves the problem of having too little security by protecting clients data and reducing fraud

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Compile, verify accuracy and sort information from clients to prepare source data for computer entry within time limits
  • Create spreadsheets with large numbers of figures without mistakes
  • The Data Clerk will also verify data by comparing it to source documents
  • Review data for deficiencies or errors, correcting any incompatibilities and checking output
  • Update existing data in the computer database
  • Retrieve data from the database or electronic files as requested, access relevant files and respond to queries for information
  • Prepare reports, store completed work in designated locations and perform backup operations to ensure data preservation
  • Sort and organize paperwork after entering data to ensure it is not lost
  • The jobholder will also research and obtain further information for incomplete documents
  • Keep information confidential and comply with data integrity and security policies
  • Ensure proper use of office equipment and address any malfunctions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicants for the Data Clerk job placement should hold a University diploma or equivalent – equivalent work experience will be considered as well
  • Prior experience as data entry clerk
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (especially Excel)
  • Excellent general IT user skills
  • Fluency in English and other local languages specific to the area of operation
  • Excellent knowledge of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Basic understanding of databases
  • High degree of confidentiality
  • Fast thinker, solution oriented
  • Eager to constantly learn, improve and take on additional responsibility
  • Ability to work with remotely
  • Able to deal with the pressure of delivering fast and accurately
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Organized, with an ability to stay focused on assigned tasks
